In 2023, the Federal Institute of Public Health (BIÖG), together with the partner countries Turkiye (Turkish Foundation for Family Health and Planning (TAPV)) and Serbia (Humanitarian Center in Novi Sad), launched a two-year Erasmus+ project entitled "Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for Young Refugees – Best Practices and Lessons Learned." The overall objective was to motivate European countries to promote sexuality education for young refugees and to create appropriate services.
The publication "Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for Young Refugees – Practical Examples and Lessons Learned" was released in August 2025. It summarises the results of the Erasmus+ project and aims to contribute to improving the sexual and reproductive health of young refugees in the EU. In addition to a scientific literature review, it includes a collection of methods that can be used in sexuality education for (young) people with a refugee background.
Further information and the publication can be found here. It is available in four languages.
