Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for Young Refugees – Practical Examples and Lessons Learned
In 2023, the Federal Institute of Public Health (BIÖG) launched a two-year Erasmus+ project entitled “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for Young Refugees – Practical Examples and Lessons Learned” together with the partner countries Turkey and Serbia.
The overall objective was to motivate European countries to promote sex education for young refugees and to create appropriate services. In the project partner countries, the project was represented by the non-governmental organizations, the Humanitarian Center in Novi Sad (Serbia) and the Turkish Foundation for Family Health and Planning (TAPV), and supported by the UNFPA country offices.
The project is co-financed by the European Union.
The publication includes, among other things:
- Raising awareness of the importance of this topic among youth workers, government institutions, and non-governmental organizations to motivate them to take action within the European Union.
- Assessment of the status quo in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights for young refugees as well as the associated needs and barriers through a comprehensive literature review.
- Identifcation, collection and provision of methods, services, and tools for holistic sexuality education for young refugees at the national and transnational levels.
Target groups: educational institutions, healthcare authorities, and professionals working in the fields of education and healthcare.
